Duration of Studies – Terms of Study
The duration of study at the DPMS leading to the receipt of a Postgraduate Diploma (MPS) is defined as three (3) semesters of full-time teaching. The third semester also includes the preparation of a diploma thesis.
The maximum time allowed to complete the studies is set at three semesters and may be extended to four semesters for the purpose of completing the diploma thesis after a reasoned application of the student to the SE and approval of the EDE.
In exceptional cases, the postgraduate student may request a justified temporary suspension of studies, after at least one (1) semester of studies has passed. This suspension does not exceed two (2) consecutive semesters by decision of the EDE. In his application, the student must state the reasons, the period of time of the requested suspension of studies and attach the relevant supporting documents. The semesters of suspension of the student status are not counted towards the prescribed maximum duration of normal studies.
If during the period of suspension of studies of each student the program or the duration of studies of the D.P.M.S. is modified, then:
a) The student will follow a study program with the same number of credit units he had when he enrolled at the DPMS.
b) The student will attend courses according to the correspondences between new and old courses made by EDE.
Curriculum
The DPMS begins in the fall or spring semester of each academic year. The DPMS consists of a common set of core courses for the first and second semesters, two directions of elective courses and the preparation of the diploma thesis for the third semester.
A total of ninety (90) credits (ECTS) are required to obtain a BMI. During the studies, postgraduate students are required to attend and pass postgraduate courses, research and write theses, and attend seminars. The teaching of the courses for the first two semesters takes place on Friday (afternoon and evening) and Saturday (morning and noon), unless SE and EDE decide otherwise. A slight variation depending on the choices of the students can be made for the elective courses of the 3rd semester, but always in the afternoon-evening hours. The courses are organized in semesters and take place on a weekly basis. Courses may also be taught in English from Greek and/or from English or International literature.
The DPMS includes a total of twenty (20) postgraduate courses, as well as the preparation of the diploma thesis. Of the twenty (20) postgraduate courses, four (4) are first semester core courses, four (4) are second semester core courses and twelve (12) are third semester elective courses from which students choose four (4). During the third semester the postgraduate student writes his thesis. The thesis is submitted/presented at the end of the third semester.
A course of study means the duration of study defined in article 6 for obtaining the BMI.

The DPMS may partially or fully cover the movements of teachers and students of the DPMS for educational purposes and the promotion of research, after a relevant request from the interested parties to the SE of the DPMS. The purpose and cost of each move will be described in the application. The Program may cover travel and participation in prestigious conferences, workshops, research activity programs, any cooperation with institutions, by decision of the EDE of the DPMS. All approval and payment procedures should follow the relevant Piraeus University Research Center procedure.
With the proposal of the Director of the DPMS and the decision of the EDE, the DPMS can participate in conferences and international exhibitions in Greece or abroad in the context of the promotion and publicity of the DPMS.
